Mark Rothko

Mark Rothko (1903–1970) was a Latvian-born American painter and pioneer of Abstract Expressionism. He is best known for his large canvases composed of floating rectangles of color, creating effects of emotional and spiritual depth. His work marked the color field painting movement, and he remains a key figure in abstract art.
