Description:
Monopoly Man (2017) is a major original painting from Alec Monopoly's most recognised period — a large-format, high-energy work on canvas/board that deploys his full visual arsenal with characteristic exuberance. The Monopoly Man strides triumphantly atop a private jet branded with the McDonald's golden arches, money bags cascading below, dollar bills raining from every corner, the word "CANADA" blazing in red graffiti across a maple leaf spray-painted in the same red on a collaged newspaper ground. "BARCELONA" tags the lower right. The ALEC signature anchors the lower left. Everything is moving, everything is dripping, everything is for sale — and the painting loves it.
The composition is vintage Alec Monopoly at full scale: the newsprint collage ground providing a layer of documentary texture beneath the frenetic graffiti overpainting, the iconic Monopoly Man figure rendered in his clean, cartoon-precise style against the controlled chaos of the spray-painted background. The juxtaposition of the Monopoly Man — a symbol of accumulated wealth and its absurdity — with a McDonald's-branded private jet is a characteristically Alec move: two of the most globally recognisable corporate icons collapsed into a single image of aspiration, comedy, and critique that operates on all three levels simultaneously without insisting on any of them.
That same fusion of speed, luxury, and pop irreverence appears in Monaco F1 (2024), a 29-color silkscreen capturing the energy of the legendary Monaco Grand Prix from a limited edition of 150. A comparable reinterpretation of the Monopoly Man within a satirical urban universe can be found in London Money Bags (2025), a 29-color screenprint from an edition of 100 — both available now at Lynart Gallery.
