ArtyCapucines BB (2023) is one of the most extraordinary objects to emerge from Louis Vuitton's celebrated ArtyCapucines programme — an annual collaboration between the house and a curated selection of the world's leading contemporary artists, in which each participant transforms the iconic Capucines silhouette into a unique limited edition artwork. Ewa Juszkiewicz — the Warsaw-born, New York-based painter whose monumental canvases of faceless female figures with extravagant, obscuring hairstyles have made her one of the most critically discussed figurative painters of her generation — brings to the Capucines BB the full force of her painterly language.

The bag's surface becomes a canvas: a woman in a blue décolleté gown faces away, her face entirely concealed behind a monumental coiled auburn updo of extraordinary technical virtuosity, a strand of pearls threaded through the curls. The gold LV clasp — centred precisely where the face would be — functions as both hardware and compositional element, completing the visual substitution that defines Juszkiewicz's practice: the hair as mask, the coiffure as identity, the decorative as the uncanny. Against the warm sage calfskin ground, the hyperrealist painted figure achieves an effect simultaneously glamorous and disquieting — the house's signature luxury disrupted by the artist's persistent interrogation of visibility, femininity, and the gaze.
