Medium: Portfolio of 5 screenprints, each hand-signed by its artist

Description

MoMAK 60th Anniversary Editions is a commemorative portfolio created by five of Japan’s most influential contemporary artists—Lee Ufan, Kishio Suga, Norio Imai, Etsutomu Kashihara, and Tatsuo Kawaguchi—on the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the National Museum of Modern Art, Kyoto (MoMAK).

Each screenprint in the portfolio reflects the distinctive visual language and conceptual approach of its creator, while together they form a unified celebration of postwar Japanese avant-garde art. From Lee Ufan’s meditative minimalism to Suga’s engagement with material and perception, and from Imai’s experimental abstraction to Kashihara and Kawaguchi’s poetic formalism, the collection encapsulates six decades of innovation and artistic dialogue.

This rare collaborative edition highlights the continuing legacy of the Mono-ha and conceptual movements that have shaped Japan’s place in global contemporary art.

That same meditative dialogue between material and void extends into Dialogue (2011), a watercolor on paper exploring restraint and presence within suspended color fields. An earlier, foundational counterpart appears in A Cut Shot 1 and A Cut Shot 3 (1978), a set of two signed woodcuts from Lee Ufan's Mono-ha period, published in Hanga Geijutsu magazine — both available now at Lynart Gallery.
