This large-format offset lithograph from 2005 represents Murakami at his most cosmologically ambitious — a vertical composition set entirely against an absolute black ground, in which two of his signature entities hover in a space that feels simultaneously microscopic and galactic. At the upper register, a dark phantom form — flat, stylised, part manta ray and part mask — floats above a complex layered totem of figures and patterns rendered in deep red, blue, and white. Below, separated by a field of pure black, a crimson disc organism with bubble-like protrusions and trailing tendrils completes the composition, its reflection or shadow creating a symmetry that echoes Japanese Buddhist cosmological diagrams and the visual conventions of sacred scroll painting.

The production is technically remarkable: offset lithography in colours is enriched with glitter, UV coating, and cold stamp — the last two processes adding light-reactive and tactile dimensions that make the work behave differently in different conditions of illumination. The glitter gives the black ground a depth and shimmer that flat ink cannot achieve; the UV coating creates zones of selective gloss that activate certain elements of the composition; the cold stamp adds a metallic dimension that elevates the work into the territory of luxury print production. Together, these processes are characteristic of Kaikai Kiki Co.'s approach to Murakami's print editions — technically sophisticated, materially ambitious, and conceived for a collecting audience that expects more than a poster.

Published by Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd. — Murakami's own production company, responsible for all officially sanctioned editions of his work — in an edition of 300, hand-signed and numbered by the artist on the front. Murakami's work is held in the permanent collections of MoMA, the Guggenheim, the Pompidou, and major institutions across Asia, Europe, and North America, and his prints at this scale and production standard are among the most actively collected in the contemporary market.

FAQ

Is this an original Takashi Murakami print?
Yes — an original offset lithograph with glitter, UV coating, and cold stamp, hand-signed and numbered by the artist on the front, published by Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd.

What is the edition size?
300 impressions — hand-signed and numbered by Murakami on the front of each impression.

What is Kaikai Kiki Co., Ltd.?
Kaikai Kiki is Takashi Murakami's own production company, founded in 2001 and responsible for all officially sanctioned editions, merchandise, and collaborations bearing his name. Works published by Kaikai Kiki carry the full authority of the artist's own production.

What are the glitter, UV coating, and cold stamp processes?
Glitter adds depth and shimmer to the black ground; UV coating selectively glosses certain elements of the composition, activating them under different lighting conditions; cold stamp adds a metallic foil dimension without heat — together creating a multi-sensory surface far beyond standard offset printing.

Is the work framed?
Yes — framed, as shown.

Do you ship internationally?
Yes — worldwide, with museum-grade packaging for large-format framed works, full insurance, and shipment tracking.
