Description: Cherry Blossoms (2021) is the original exhibition poster created for Damien Hirst’s first-ever solo show in France, held at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain in Paris. For this landmark exhibition, six different poster designs were produced, each celebrating Hirst’s vibrant and immersive series.
The Cherry Blossoms paintings are a bold departure from minimalism, embracing excess, color, and texture. “The Cherry Blossoms are about beauty, life and death. They’re excessive – almost vulgar. They’re decorative but painted from life. They’re about desire and how we perceive things around us… they show the incredible transience of an instant of beauty, like a flashing moment you can’t hold on to,” Hirst explains. The result is a body of work that is playful, messy, and emotionally charged — a celebration of both painting and the fleeting nature of life.
