Damien Hirst is regarded as one of the most radical figures in the contemporary art market. As a pioneer of the Young British Artists (YBA), he rose to fame in the 1980s with shocking, conceptually charged works. Recognized as Britain’s most notorious living artist, Hirst created pieces such as human skulls encrusted with diamonds and dead animals preserved in formaldehyde tanks.
In 2008, he staged the controversial auction Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, which fetched £111 million ($198 million). Throughout his career, Hirst has continued to explore a wide range of media, including sculpture, prints, paintings, and installations—consistently challenging artistic conventions. Among his most famous works are the Pill Cabinets, meticulously arranged shelves of pills cast in metal, plaster, and resin. In 2017, Phillips New York exhibited the largest piece of this celebrated series ever shown in the United States, titled The Void, 2000.
