Damien Hirst is one of the most provocative and influential artists of his generation. As a pioneer of the Young British Artists (YBA), he first gained prominence in the 1980s with works that combined shock value and conceptual depth. Hirst has since become Britain’s most notorious living artist, known for his diamond-encrusted human skulls and animals preserved in formaldehyde tanks.
In 2008, he made history with the landmark auction Beautiful Inside My Head Forever, which raised £111 million ($198 million). Throughout his career, Hirst has pushed the boundaries of contemporary art, working across sculpture, painting, printmaking, and large-scale installations. Among his most celebrated series are the Pill Cabinets, featuring meticulously crafted pills in metal, plaster, and resin. In 2017, Phillips New York exhibited The Void, 2000, the largest piece of this series ever shown in the United States.
