Description:

Petite Vénus Bleue is one of the most iconic objects in Yves Klein's universe — the truncated silhouette of an antique Venus, entirely coated in IKB (International Klein Blue), the ultramarine pigment Klein patented in 1960 and which became one of the most recognisable colours in the history of twentieth-century art. Produced here in its Jewel version — the IKB-painted bronze figure mounted against a gold leaf ground encased in a transparent acrylic block — the work articulates the fundamental duality at the heart of Klein's practice: the immaterial and the material, the spiritual and the sensual, the infinite blue and the alchemical gold.

Klein chose the Venus — the millennia-old symbol of beauty, femininity, and ideal form — and stripped her of all natural colour, subjecting her entirely to his IKB and transforming an icon of flesh into an icon of coloured void. The gesture is simultaneously irreverent and sublime, proto-Pop and deeply mystical. The gold leaf ground is not decorative: it refers directly to Klein's Gold Monochrome works and his lifelong experiments with value, immateriality, and alchemical transmutation — gold and blue representing the two poles of his metaphysical system.

Published by TAT Arts in collaboration with Stéphane Klein — the artist's son and guarantor of authorised posthumous editions — and produced in an edition of 500 plus 100 artist's proofs, each example is authenticated by stamp signature. A fully collectible sculptural object, faithful in both spirit and material to the original work.
