This beautiful set of two color lithographs comes from the famous portfolio Four Tales from the Arabian Nights (1948) by Marc Chagall, published by Pantheon Books in New York and printed at the Mourlot workshops in Paris. It represents one of Chagall’s first major collaborations with printer Fernand Mourlot, a master of modern lithography.

Each image showcases Chagall’s magical visual language, featuring floating figures, dreamlike scenes, sensual nudes, and celestial musicians. The intense palette of blues, reds, and pinks illuminates these tales drawn from Oriental literature, reflecting the artist’s poetic and romantic universe.

These prints are taken from the original portfolio, limited to only 90 numbered copies, completed by a suite of unsigned plates from which these works originate. They are a true treasure for collectors of modern prints.

That same fantastical, gestural imagination applied to circus performers defines Drei Akrobaten (1923), an etching and aquatint capturing Chagall's lifelong fascination with acrobats and myth.
