Dans ce film de 2009, son premier long métrage, Shirin Neshat raconte l'histoire de femmes iraniennes qui traversent les bouleversements sociaux, politiques et environnementaux de leur pays à la suite du coup d'État soutenu par la CIA qui a renversé Mosaddegh, un homme de gauche, en 1953. Comme dans la plupart des œuvres de Shirin, l'objectif est de mettre l'accent sur le point de collision entre le personnel et le politique. 
Shirin, qui a vécu en exil pendant la majeure partie de sa vie d'adulte, est une avocate essentielle pour les femmes en Iran et au-delà, et elle influence les conversations mondiales sur l'identité et le genre.
