Description

Discover Untitled (Head Shots Series) – Triptych by Cindy Sherman, one of the most influential artists of contemporary photography. This trio of works originates from the first photoshoot Sherman created for her now-seminal Head Shots series, developed in the lead-up to the 2000 Oscars ceremony.

In this series, Sherman embodies fictional aspiring actresses posing for professional headshots — women suspended between ambition and uncertainty, glamour and vulnerability. Through subtle variations in posture, expression, and gaze across the three images, Sherman constructs a narrative of aspiration, self-presentation, and fragile Hollywood dreams.

Originally shot on an expired roll of experimental Polaroid slide film, the images retain a nostalgic cinematic texture. Presented together, the three prints evoke a vintage projector strip, reinforcing the theatrical and filmic undertone of the work. The triptych format enhances the psychological dimension of the series, allowing viewers to observe the slight yet telling shifts in persona from one frame to the next.

Sherman initially withheld these portraits, considering them “more pretty” than the rest of the series. Twenty-five years later, this previously unseen work was released from her personal archive, offering collectors a rare and intimate insight into a pivotal body of work.

Printed as digital C-prints on Fujicolor Crystal Archive Type DPII paper, the edition ensures exceptional tonal richness and archival quality. The edition of 629 is signed by the artist on the reverse (one signature per trio) and accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity.

Works from the Head Shots series are highly regarded for their exploration of identity, performance, femininity, and the construction of image — central themes in Sherman’s internationally celebrated practice.
